LOOM WEAVING WORKSHOP IN KUMANOVO
We had an amazing weaving workshop with Mr. Damjan Ristovski and 24 talented students from SOU “Pero Nakov”!
After a thorough demonstration of the loom and all the preparations, each student got hands-on experience with weaving. We explored working with wool and various textile materials, and some students even created fantastic patterns on hand frames. The excitement and interest were incredible!
The workshop “Reviving the loom weaving tradition” is part of the project “Platform for female family entrepreneurship” implemented by Dobredojde Macedonia Welcome Center, with the support of the Slovenian Embassy Skopje/Амбасада на Република Словенија 🇸🇮🇲🇰

THE PROCESS OF WEAVING
The weaving process is not simple; it is divided into several stages: warping, winding, threading, healding, and weaving. The first stage, warping, is fundamental and indispensable for further progress. In the past, villages had a few skilled women called upon to prepare the warp for weaving.
This is where the entire secret of weaving lies.
The subsequent stages are equally important, namely winding the warp onto the back beam, threading it through the healds, and the reed using the shed created during warping. There are two types of weaving: plain weaving or weaving with just two threads, and twill weaving, or weaving with four threads. Typically, fabrics and aprons were woven with two threads, while woolen materials and some sashes were woven with four threads. Plain weaving is simpler, while twill weaving is considered more complex.
Once the warp is threaded through the reed, it is tied to the front beam, and the weaving begins.
